For the first time ever, the Orange Order will not be permitted to parade through the Ardoyne area of North Belfast on July 12.
The commission has said Orangemen cannot walk on the stretch of the Crumlin Road where the Ardoyne shops are situated during their return march in the evening.
The Parades Commission took the decision in an effort to prevent any riots from occurring.
Last night Sinn Fein MLA for the Ardoyne, Gerry Kelly welcomed the Parades Commission decision describing it as "sensible".
However, the DUP has reacted angrily saying it wants the Parades Commission removed and has called the decision 'illogical'.
It says the decision to ban Orangemen from the Ardoyne will cause "massive damage to community relations and to respect for law and order".
Police from across the UK are being brought in especially to support the PSNI for the 12 of July Orange order parades. Around 630 officers will be active.
"The Twelfth", as the day is called, is an annual celebration of the victory of William of Orange over the Catholic King James II at the Battle of the Boyne.
On July 12 last year, shots were fired at police officers responding to serious rioting by nationalists.
