TV presenter Trisha Goddard is being treated for breast cancer, it was announced today.
A lump was discovered during a routine mammogram three weeks ago.
Goddard, 50, will be absent from her Five TV show 'Trisha' for two weeks.
The star's husband Peter Gianfancesco said: "She may possibly need, or choose to have, chemotherapy.
"We are both stressed and exhausted from the stress and worry, but are trying to deal with this one step at a time."
A spokesman said that after the lump was found, a tumour was removed immediately and doctors took lymph nodes samples for a biopsy.
Initial results were positive, but on Saturday, Goddard, a mother-of-two, received a detailed report which showed a micro cancer cell present in one of the nodes.
The 80 staff who work on Goddard's weekday morning show were told this morning that she would be absent for two weeks following a second operation to remove further lymph nodes.
Gianfrancesco, who lives with the TV star in Norfolk with their two children, Billie, 18, and Madison, 13, said: "Trisha has to go into hospital again and then wait for the results of tests on the nodes that are being removed this time."
"We hoped that we could handle with this in private, but following a number of inquiries from newspapers, we thought it best to put the record straight.
"We ask that everyone respects our privacy during this difficult time, allowing us to focus on supporting my wife's recovery."
Goddard's business partner, Malcolm Allsop, said: "Trisha does not want to feel like a sick person.
"Indeed she went straight back to work after the first operation and four days after leaving hospital was at a lunch with Madame Sarkozy and Sarah Brown at Lancaster House."
He said Goddard planned to return to the studio at the end of the month, adding: "Fortunately the shows are recorded several weeks in advance, so she is hoping that transmission will not be interrupted.
"When she had her last medical last year the doctor said she had the fitness level of an endurance athlete.
"She is strong and will come through this as she has with other setbacks in her life."
