CSO: Average income highest in Dublin region

In 2003 the disposable income per person in the southern and eastern region was 2.9% above the State average while the corresponding figure in the border, midland and western NUTS 2 region was 8% below the State average.

In 2003 the disposable income per person in the southern and eastern region was 2.9% above the State average while the corresponding figure in the border, midland and western NUTS 2 region was 8% below the State average.

Figures from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) show that the gap of 10.9 points between the two regions represents a decrease on the gaps of 12.2 points in 2002 and 12 points in 2001.

The Dublin region had the highest disposable income per person of the eight regional authority areas, being 13.3% above the State average in 2003.

The disposable income per person of the border region was 9.5% below the State average in 2003 and was the lowest of the eight regional authority areas.

At county level, the only counties that had an average disposable income per person in excess of the state average were Dublin, Kildare and Limerick.

At the lower end of the scale there were 10 counties with disposable incomes per person below 90% of the State average and a further six counties between 90% and 95% of the State average.
