Senator Ivor Callely has said he will now be concentrating on clearing his name before the Seanad Select Committe after resigning from the Fianna Fáil party last night.
The decision followed a meeting yesterday with the party committee examing the Senator's expenses.
His lawyers applied for a further adjournment of the proceedings of the committee, a request which was refused.
The committe was then informed that Senator Callely had resigned from Fianna Fáil and a finding of conduct 'unbecoming' a member was made against him,
Senator Callely says he will now concentrate on clearing his name before the Seanad Select Committee on Members' Interests, which on Monday gave him a further two weeks to respond to complaints concerning his mobile phone expenses.
He was also given a month to respond to a further complaint that he failed to make a full disclosure of his property interests.
