The pair, a man and a woman in their 30s, were held for 12 hours after being arrested on suspicion of neglect at a house in Enniscorthy yesterday morning.

They were questioned about the circumstances surrounding the death of Ms Joel, an arthritis and MS sufferer who passed away in hospital after being found severely malnourished in the bedroom of her daughter's family home on New Year's Day.

The 58-year-old was said to have been lying in her own excrement with maggots on her body.
