Tottenham midfielder Pedro Mendes claims he wants to quit the club and return to Portugal.
The 26-year-old won the Champions League with Porto in 2004 but has been frozen out at White Hart Lane following an influx of midfielders under current coach Martin Jol.
The arrival of Edgar Davids, Jermaine Jenas and Teemu Tainio has pushed the Portuguese player down the pecking order.
Now he is ready to return home to gain regular first-team football.
“I want to return to Portugal,” he confirmed. “I don’t want to be ignored any more. If I am out of the picture then I will leave.
“The first year I had a good season but then some bad things set me back. I broke a toes and missed the last two months of the campaign. But I can’t just be left like this.
“I feel ready to help my team but it doesn’t look like I will get the chance.”
Mendes joined Spurs for £2m (€2.92m) last year and has already been linked with a return to his former club.
“There has been talk but nothing has materialised. We have to wait and see,” he told the News of the World.
