Sinn Féin president Gerry Adams is due to meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair in London today to discuss the fallout from the Independent Monitoring Commission’s first report.
The report, published earlier this week, said senior members of Sinn Féin were also leading activists in the Provisional IRA.
It also accused the IRA of involvement in shootings, smuggling, hijackings and the attempted abduction of a dissident republican in Belfast last February.
Sinn Féin is vehemently opposed to the IMC, which was established by the Irish and British governments to rule on the status of paramilitary ceasefires.
Speaking yesterday, Mr Adams said he felt the report had done major damage to the peace process and he would be raising this point in today’s meeting with Mr Blair.
