A man who was shot dead in Ballymun this morning was on his way to work when he was attacked.

A man who was shot dead in Ballymun this morning was on his way to work when he was attacked.

The 48-year-old victim was wounded a number of times by a lone gunman.

It happened on Gateway Avenue in Ballymun at 8.45am. The victim was cycling to his job as a window cleaner when he was approached and shot.

His attacker then fled the scene. It is believed the victim had no previous convictions and was not known to the gardaí.

The victim, a father of one, was taken to the Mater Hospital and was pronounced dead.

A forensic examination is underway at the scene, and Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to contact them at Ballymun Garda Station on 01-6664400, The Garda Confidential Telephone Line 1-800-666-111 or any other Garda Station.
