Irish Aids funding to rise by $30m

Ireland is to spend an additional $30m per year on the fight against Aids.

Ireland is to spend an additional $30m per year on the fight against Aids.

The Taoiseach made the announcement at the UN General Assembly meeting on Aids in New York.

Mr Ahern also called for a dramatic increase in international support for people with HIV and Aids.

36 million people now suffer from HIV and AIDS worldwide. More than 26 million of those live in Africa.
