The lorry driver involved in yesterday's horrific accident in which toddler David Garvey died will appear in court later today.

David, of Slane, Co Meath, was four days short of his second birthday when he died.

Three vehicles were at traffic lights on the south side of a narrow bridge on the N2 from Dublin, one carrying David and his mother, a second containing his father and the third with four adult occupants.

The vehicles and the lorry, which was loaded with timber, collided at the bottom of a steep hill.

Two cars were crushed and the third was trapped in the wreckage. All six adults were injured.

The 35-year-old lorry driver, from Portrush, Co Antrim, was arrested and questioned at Navan Garda station.

He is due to appear before Kilcock District Court this morning.

The young victim's mother is understood to be in a serious condition in Dublin's Mater Hospital while the father is reported to be in a stable condition.
