Victoria Beckham and her new born son Romeo were today doing well in hospital.
The Beckhams’ latest edition was born yesterday, by Caesarean section, and weighed in at 7lbs 4oz.
While 28-year-old Victoria - Posh Spice - was expected to stay in hospital for a few days, her husband, England football captain David, was back in Manchester for training ahead of his club’s match with Middlesbrough tomorrow.
First to arrive to visit Victoria at London’s Portland Hospital today was Victoria’s mother Jackie, who turned up in a blacked-out Chrysler people carrier with her daughter’s niece, Liberty.
She said as she and Liberty entered the hospital through the front doors: “They are fine thank you. David’s training in Manchester.”
Victoria Beckham was admitted to the exclusive hospital early yesterday morning and gave birth by Caesarean section on medical advice.
It is the second time she has undergone the procedure: the couple’s first child, Brooklyn, was a breech birth and delivered by Caesarean at the same hospital in March 1999.
David Beckham was at the birth having travelled to be at his wife’s side after playing in Manchester United’s 1-1 draw with Sunderland on Wearside on Saturday.
The England captain, 27, emerged from the hospital with his publicist shortly after midday yesterday to tell the news to a crowd of waiting reporters.
He smiled broadly as he said: “It’s always nervous having children but it’s the most beautiful thing in the world.
“Romeo’s gorgeous. Victoria’s great. She’s sitting up in bed and the family are here.”
The footballer, who has been viewed by many as an ideal father since Brooklyn was born, said the couple chose the name Romeo purely because they liked it.
Brooklyn, now three, was said by his father to be delighted to have a younger brother, and had been with his mother in the later stages of the operation.
