Farmer's hold conference in Kilkenny

More than 1,000 farmers are attending a conference this weekend where cattle prices will be discussed.

More than 1,000 farmers are attending a conference this weekend where cattle prices will be discussed.

The annual Macra na Feirme conference in Kilkenny began yesterday when the Minister for Agriculture, Mr Walsh, opened the event.

Over the course of the conference Mr Derek Deane, chairman of the IFA's livestock committee, is expected to discuss Irish cattle prices with Mr John Smith, chief executive of the Irish Meat Processors' Association.

It is thought that nearly 1,500 farmers are at the event.
