One in two Irish people will not complain if they are unhappy with food hygiene standards while eating out, according to new research by Safe Food.

The food hygiene watchdog has launched a new campaign to encourage consumers to 'Speak Out' if they are unsatisfied with standards.

Almost 300 food premises have been closed since 2000 for dangerous hygiene practices.

"Part of our campaign is to highlight the sort of things that people can do themselves to check for hygiene and good food safety practice."
