Bolton midfielder Sean Davis could miss the rest of the season after undergoing surgery to repair a serious knee injury.

The 30-year-old former Portsmouth midfielder needed the operation after sustaining an articular cartilage injury to his right knee during the 3-2 home defeat against Liverpool on August 29.

Trotters boss Gary Megson said: “We don’t want to put an exact timescale on how long Sean will be out of action for because he will be given as long as it takes to regain his full fitness.

“It is a disappointment for Sean and ourselves but injuries happen and we have got to deal with it.”
