This afternoon’s meeting at Haydock goes ahead as planned after a precautionary inspection planned for 8am was brought forward.

Officials had been optimistic about staging the seven-race card, which features the Sodexho Prestige Tommy Whittle Chase, as the course had been protected by frost covers.

And after a reasonable night, clerk of the course Kirkland Tellwright was able to give proceedings an early go-ahead.

He said: “It’s good news as racing goes ahead.

“It barely froze here last night and the ground is good to soft.”
