Scottish university to award honorary degree to McAleese

President Mary McAleese is to receive an honorary degree today from one of Scotland's oldest universities.

Mary McAleese is to receive an honorary degree today from one of Scotland's oldest universities.

As part of an official visit to the country, she will be honoured with a Doctor of Law at a graduation ceremony at Edinburgh University.

Professors there said President McAleese has proved to be a voice of reform and reason who has sought educated and enlightened contemporary solutions to problems that go back many generations.
