Gardaí set for new powers after gangland killings

The Government has reportedly approved plans to give the Gardaí sweeping new powers following the recent spate of gangland-style murders.

The Government has reportedly approved plans to give the Gardaí sweeping new powers following the recent spate of gangland-style murders.

Reports this morning say the Government has approved increased powers of detention, the additional use of search warrants and the establishment of a DNA database.

Legislation paving the way for the new powers is expected to be published later this month.
