Gardaí in Cork city are hunting for an armed raider who held up staff at gunpoint at an off-license last night.

The masked raider made off with around €1000 from the off-license near the Railway Station on the Lower Glanmire Road.

The man entered the off-license at around 10.30 last night and produced a hand gun. He gestured to staff to hand over the takings of the till before fleeing on foot.

Gardaí have carried out door-to-door inquires and are studying CCTV footage.

No one was injured during the incident but staff were left badly shaken.

Gardaí are unsure if the weapon used was a real or imitation hand gun.

The man is described as being in his late twenties and was wearing a white top with a distinctive blue stripe.

Gardaí at Mayfield are appealing for witnesses.
