Taoiseach to visit European ceremony to mark WWI centenary
The Taoiseach and the Minister of State for European Affairs will attend a ceremony to mark 100 years since the start of the First World War.
Enda Kenny and Paschal Donohoe will attend the event during this week's meeting of the European Council in Brussels.
He will join leaders of the 28 EU states in commemorating those who died in WWI, including 35,000 Irish men.
The summit, which will last for two days, will also decide the future President of the European commission.
After over a month of political wrangling – and speculation that the Taoiseach himself may be chosen for the job – former Luxembourg prime minister Jean-Claude Juncker is still the likely candidate.
The other main focus of the summit will be on agreeing a strategic agenda to guide the EU for the coming five-year period.
