Ireland’s partnership with other EU countries in combating climate change will be highlighted by Taoiseach Bertie Ahern in Brussels today.
He will be addressing the final stage of a two-day Spring European Council meeting.
The Taoiseach is being accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Dermot Ahern to the event, which is focusing on the Lisbon Strategy for jobs and growth.
It is providing heads of state and government with a first opportunity to discuss the European Commission’s package of draft legislative proposals on climate and energy, which was published last January.
A Government spokesman said: “The Taoiseach will highlight Ireland’s commitment to working with the other member states on the challenges of climate change as well as the need to persuade the wider international community to take action.
“The agenda for the Council shows the global challenges facing the Union which require all member states to work together in an efficient and effective manner.”
