An SDLP delegation has met with the Government in Dublin to discuss the continuing crisis over who has authority over Orange parades.

An SDLP delegation has met with the Government in Dublin to discuss the continuing crisis over who has authority over Orange parades.

Two Parades Commission decisions re-routing Orange parades were over-ruled by the police on public order grounds, causing nationalist anger.

The police overturned Parades Commission rulings at Ardoyne in Belfast and Lurgan in Armagh, leading the SDLP to demand a change in the law.

The SDLP does not want the police to decide whether parades are re-routed. The party’s leader, Mark Durkan, is asking Dublin to bring pressure on London and is seeking a public declaration from the British government.
