IMPACT slams Lenihan comments on public service jobs

The IMPACT trade union has hit out at the Minister for Finance for saying public servants should be offered redundancy.

The IMPACT trade union has hit out at the Minister for Finance for saying public servants should be offered redundancy.

Speaking during a Dáil debate last night, Brian Lenihan said he would like to see redundancy packages offered to all public and civil servants in a bid to cut payroll costs.

IMPACT, however, says the idea was never discussed during talks on a new national pay deal last week.

It is accusing Mr Lenihan of "playing to the gallery" and scapegoating the public services for the state of the Irish economy.
