A woman whose body was found in a bag this morning was black, but her age and identity are as yet unknown, gardaí have revealed.

The discovery was made by a passer by at St David’s Terrace off Blackhorse Avenue on Dublin’s northside.

The passer-by noticed a large hold-all bag on the ground outside a house at the end of the terrace.

The bag - described as a large suitcase style with wheels and a handle - was found at about 8.30am today.

The State Pathologist’s office has been notified and specialist forensic units are to carry out technical examinations. The State Pathologist is expected to carry out a post mortem on the remains later today.

Gardaí said the road has been closed to traffic.

Anyone with information has been urged to contact the Bridewell garda station.
