Man and six-year-old son stable after house shooting

A man and his six-year-old son were shot last night in a house in Co Longford in an incident gardaí say involved members of the Travelling community.

A man and his six-year-old son were shot last night in a house in Co Longford in an incident gardaí say involved members of the Travelling community.

A number of shots were fired at the house located at Ballynagoshel, outside Edgeworthstown at around 7pm.

The man, who is in his 20s, and his son were taken to hospital after the attack, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A woman who was also in the house was unharmed during the shooting.

Officers are investigating the motive for the attack and are continuing inquiries in the area. No arrests have been made and the scene of the shooting has been sealed off for a technical examination.
