Cork man accused of raping aunt

A woman has told a Central Criminal Court jury today that her nephew raped her in her Co Cork home after threatening to kill her if she did not do what he asked.

A woman has told a Central Criminal Court jury today that her nephew raped her in her Co Cork home after threatening to kill her if she did not do what he asked.

She said she could see the blade of a knife in his hand before he told her: “You know what is going to happen. I am going to rape you.”

The 54-year-old woman told Mr Tim O’Leary SC, prosecuting, that her nephew later told her to talk dirty to him and offered her €1,000 if she let him ejaculate in her.

He told her this could be an on-going arrangement. She told him that was incest and he replied: “I am a sick little puppy amn’t I?”

She said he then made her perform oral sex on him before he carried out oral sex on her.

He asked her if she was enjoying it before he told her to just lie down and pretend they were boyfriend and girlfriend for the night.

She said he later got KY jelly from the sitting room and made her put it on both of them before he had sex with her.

The 32-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to rape, oral rape, two charges of sex assault and one charge of false imprisonment on August 25, 2010.

She said afterwards her nephew told her he was sorry and said he knew she was going to call the guards.

She assured him she would not because she said she didn’t want people knowing and it would distress his father.

The woman told the jury that she really thought her nephew was going to murder her.

He made her swear on her granddaughter’s life she would not call the gardaí and he left.

She locked the door, turned off the lights and sat in the dark crying before she went upstairs to call her niece, the accused’s cousin, and told her what had happened.

The woman did not accept a suggestion from Mr Tom Creed SC, defending, that she put her legs across her nephew while he was sitting on the couch and “effectively came on to him”.

She refused to accept that she had voluntarily taken her pyjamas bottoms off and wanted to have sex with him.

“Why would I want to have sex with my nephew? That’s sick,” the woman replied.

She did not accept that after they had consensual sex she had second thoughts, thought that it had been effectively incest and was concerned that his father, her brother, would find out.

“I didn’t even have first thoughts never mind second thoughts,” the woman said.

She refused to accept that she had made up the allegations and what she had told the jury was “a tissue of lies”.

She accepted that she had put KY jelly onto herself and her nephew during the alleged rape but claimed she had done so because he ordered her to.

She explained that she had the jelly to use with a Slendertone belt and it was kept in a press in the sitting room.

She said that her nephew had produced it after leaving the bedroom to get it from the other room.

When asked by counsel how her nephew knew where to find the jelly, when on her testimony he had only stayed over in her house on one previous occasion she replied; “He was obviously poking around”.

The trial continues before Mr Justice Paul Carney and a jury of six men and six women.

The woman told Mr O’Leary that her nephew stayed over in her house that night after calling her earlier that day to ask if he could.

She said she went to bed shortly after midnight and left him watching television in the sitting room.

She was on the internet in her bedroom and at 1.25am she noticed that the internet had been disconnected.

The woman said she got out of bed to check the modem downstairs but let out a screech when she saw her nephew standing at the bottom of the stairs naked.

She said he told her to “shut the f*** up, shut the f*** up” but she told him to calm down.

She said he then grabbed her by the hair and pushed her up against the jam of a door before he threatened her and told her he was going to rape her.

The woman told Mr O’Leary that her nephew had “a mad look in his eye” before he pushed her towards a couch in her sitting room and pulled off her bottoms.

She said he started to perform a sex act on himself and when she refused to go upstairs as he directed, he grabbed her by the hair and told her to get into a downstairs bedroom.

He then made her give him oral sex before he performed oral sex on her.

The woman told the jury it was at this stage that her nephew got the KY jelly and had sex with her.

She said afterwards he told her to go upstairs and have a shower where he watched her and directed her to take down the showerhead and wash herself.

She got out of the shower and wrapped a towel around her before he told her to go downstairs and make him a coffee.

She went downstairs but refused to make him coffee. He got dressed and she saw the knife on the sitting room floor. She picked it up and made herself a cup of tea while he made a coffee.
