The Government has said it expects to save an additional €500m by cracking down further on welfare fraud next year.

New figures show the Welfare Fraud Office has received 16,000 anonymous tip-offs, with 10,000 of those coming in via email.

Social Protection Minister Joan Burton said she believes the surge in reports from 621 in 2005 to the current figure demonstrates a cultural change in attitudes.
