A jury has been discharged ahead of the trial of a Dublin man charged with murdering another Dubliner in Ballyfermot almost five years ago.

Martin Toland (aged 36) of Walkinstown Park has pleaded not guilty to murdering 28-year-old Alan Nolan at Cedar Brook Walk on September 8, 2007.

Mr Toland has also pleaded not guilty to recklessly or intentionally causing serious harm to James Carroll (aged 30) on the same date.

A jury of seven women and five men was sworn in earlier in the week and the trial was due to get under way today. However Mr Justice Barry White discharged the jury, when it emerged that two of the jurors could no longer serve.

A fresh jury will be sworn in on Monday.
