HSE ordered to pay €25,000 in compensation for discrimination

The Health Service Executive is being ordered to pay out €25,000 in compensation to an employee who successfully accused the group of discrimination.

The Health Service Executive is being ordered to pay out €25,000 in compensation to an employee who successfully accused the group of discrimination.

The decision is one of 38 made by the Equality Tribunal in July, which are being made public today.

Abbie Fitzgerald took a case against her employers the Health Service Executive, claiming she was discriminated against on grounds of age, gender or conditions of employment.

The Equality Tribunal has upheld that claim and ordered the HSE to compensate Ms Fitzgerald.

Among the other 37 decisions published today, the Tribunal also ordered the Comfort Inn group to pay €100,000 - €50,000 for discrimination and a further €50,000 for victimisation - to Ms Denise Batt.

Accountancy firm Thomas Clarke and company has also been ordered to pay an individual listed only as 'Desmond' €5,000 for discrimination.

All of the decisions and corresponding awards are subject to appeal.
