Kenny in Cork for final blitz

Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny is targeting Cork today for one final general election campaigning blitz.

Mr Kenny will tour towns in key marginal Cork East, where the party is hoping to regain a second seat, having missed out narrowly in 2002.

The Fine Gael leader arrived in Youghal shortly before noon, where a walkabout was scheduled from Market Square.

Mr Kenny and the touring party hit Midleton at 1.15pm, where they will canvass on Main Street.

The would-be next Taoiseach then travelled to the northern end of the constituency, arriving in Mallow at 2.20pm.

As well as doing a walkabout canvass, Mr Kenny was also scheduled to visit St Mary’s Primary School, which was gutted by fire in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Mr Kenny was accompanied on the tour by Cork East candidates Deputy David Stanton and Senator Paul Bradford.

However, while Fine Gael is targeting Cork East for a gain, most pundits feel it can only be at the expense of pact partners Labour.
