Syrian forces in partial pullout

The US ambassador to Syria has said its military has pulled back forces from some areas ahead of a UN-brokered ceasefire next week, but in other places has kept or simply shifted around troops and armoured vehicles.

The US ambassador to Syria has said its military has pulled back forces from some areas ahead of a UN-brokered ceasefire next week, but in other places has kept or simply shifted around troops and armoured vehicles.

US ambassador Robert Ford said he is basing his information on satellite images of Syrian towns and cities before and after the alleged pullouts.

The images along with his comments were posted on the US Embassy Facebook page.

Mr Ford was forced to leave Syria in February citing security concerns.

The Syrian government says it has begun to withdraw some tanks and troops from towns and cities ahead of the ceasefire which takes effect next week but activists deny any significant pullouts.
