The Communications Workers Union has criticised An Post’s plan to hire outside consultants to examine its failure to meet next-day delivery targets.
A study by the communications regulator has found that the company currently delivers just 70% of letters the day after they are posted.
An Post is planning to hire consultants to assess whether it is possible or affordable to meet the 94% target for next-day deliveries.
The CWU said today that it was very unhappy with the move, which could cost €500,000. It said such expenditure was unacceptable given An Post’s decision to withhold basic cost-of-living pay increases from its workers.
The CWU also said the company’s management should be able to assess performance without recourse to outside consultants.
