TG4’s popular series Laochra Gaol is set for another instalment on Sunday evening when Clare hurling legend Brian Lohan takes centre stage.
While the Banner county may be enjoying a near unprecedented level of optimism as their bright young squad embark on the defence of their All-Ireland crown, Lohan burst on the scene as a fresh-faced 21-year-old and formed an integral part of the Clare first side to win the Liam McCarthy since 1914.
Lohan was the lynchpin at the heart of the defence in that Clare side and became one of the county’s finest ever exponents of the game during his distinguished career.
The imposing centre-back went on to collect another All-Ireland winner’s medal in 1997 to accompany his three Munster titles and four All-Star awards – the most of any Clare hurler.
Voted onto the Munster hurling team of the millennium at his customary full-back in 2000 and onto the Munster hurling team of the last 25 years in 2009, Lohan is regarded as one of the finest full-backs ever.
Long after the glory days were passed, Lohan toiled on with his brother Frank until the elder of the two took his leave after the 2006 championship semi-final defeat at the hands of Brian Cody’s Kilkenny.

The programme airs at 17.10 on Sunday evening.
