EastEnder Kemp signs up for three more months
Ross Kemp will star in EastEnders for another three months after his brief return helped revive the ailing soap’s ratings, it was confirmed today.
Some 13 million viewers tuned in to see Kemp’s character Grant Mitchell and his brother Phil – played by Steve McFadden – make a brooding comeback last week.
They have proved so popular with fans that the BBC has now signed up Kemp to appear for another three months early next year.
He left EastEnders in 1999 to join ITV, and had originally returned on a three-week deal.
Kemp is the latest star to reappear in the soap, following the examples of Leslie Grantham and Barbara Windsor.
Mike Reid is also lined up to reprise his role as Frank Butcher in December.
EastEnders is widely regarded to have been going through a difficult patch recently.
In September an episode recorded the soap’s lowest audience in more than five years, with just 6.6m people bothering to watch.
