Who will get the last laugh at the comedy awards?

Jack Whitehall and David Mitchell are among those nominated for prizes at this year's British Comedy Awards.

The 25-year-old star will take on the 39-year-old actor for the Best Comedy TV Actor prize, as well as Greg Davies and Kevin Eldon, and the pair will also do battle in the Best Sitcom category as Jack's 'Bad Education' is up against 'Peep Show', while 'Count Arthur Strong' and 'Getting On' also have nods.

Jack's 'Fresh Meat' co-star Zawe Ashton – who plays Vod in the Channel 4 programme – will do battle with Miranda Hart and 'Getting On' co-stars Jo Brand and Vicki Pepperdine as they aim to win the Best TV Comedy Actress accolade.

Miranda will take on Nina Conti, Sarah Millican and 'Great British Bake Off' co-hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc for Best Female TV Comic, while the male equivalent will be contested between David, James Corden, Jon Richardson and Lee Mack.

Adam Hills is up for Best Comedy Entertainment Personality and Best Comedy Breakthrough Artist, while his show 'The Last Leg' is up for Best Comedy Entertainment Programme alongside 'Alan Carr: Chatty Man', 'Saturday Night Takeaway' and 'The Graham Norton Show'.

Tom Rosenthal and Trollied's Joel Fry will be hoping to win an award for ITV's ancient Rome comedy 'Plebs', which will take on 'Count Arthur Strong', 'Cuckoo' and 'Psychobitches' in the Best New Comedy Programme category.

Jonathan Ross will host the awards, which will air live on Channel 4 on Thursday December 12.
