Longford eased their relegation worries with a first win in nine games as Blues' Willie Bruton missed a penalty.

Dessie Baker poached the winner for Town on 19 minutes when outwitting Blues defender Dave Mulcahy to toe poke past keeper Dan Connor.

Baker might have had a second within a minute before Alan Kirby missed a sitter on 35 minutes, shooting against the bar with the goal gaping.

Bruton then blazed a 59th minute spot kick high over the bar after what appeared a harsh decision by referee Dave McKeon in penalising Town keeper Stephen O’Brien for a challenge on Daryl Murphy.
