Mourinho equivocal on future

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has refused to clear up speculation surrounding his future at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has refused to clear up speculation surrounding his future at Stamford Bridge.

The Portuguese manager was asked to clarify his position after weekend stories suggested he would be leaving west London with claims of rifts among Mourinho, owner Roman Abramovich and chief executive Peter Kenyon.

The former Porto boss was even moved yesterday to reject claims of dressing room unrest among his multi-million-pound superstars.

However, he was not so unequivocal when it came to answering questions about his own future following the Premiership champions’ 1-1 draw at Wycombe in the Carling Cup semi-final first leg.

Mourinho told Sky Sports: “My position is not important.

“What is important is Chelsea, not me, and Chelsea are in a good position, almost in the final of Carling Cup, the last 16 of the Champions League, the fourth round of the FA Cup and second in the league.

“That is the way I have worked all my career. I’m not important. It is the club.”
