Code to help councils deal with former dumps

The Environmental Protection Agency has issued a draft code to help local authorities carry out an audit and risk assessment of all closed illegal landfills.

The Environmental Protection Agency has issued a draft code to help local authorities carry out an audit and risk assessment of all closed illegal landfills.

The EPA has invited public comment on the code of practice.

The code sets out how local authorities can identify sites that were suspected or known to have been used for waste disposal/recovery.

Those sites identified as having been used as illegal dumps can then be placed on a register and put through a risk screening process
