Welshman Jamie Donaldson, without a win in 237 European Tour events, leads the Omega European Masters with a round to go in Switzerland.
But the 35-year-old, 14 under par after 54 holes, has two of golf’s biggest names snapping at his heels.
Lee Westwood had a best-of-the-day 64 – one less than Donaldson – to move into second place on 13 under, and one further back is US Open champion Rory McIlroy, who was out in front until he bogeyed the 16th and 17th.
Westwood, joint 10th overnight but only two behind, completed a front-nine 31 with four successive birdies and then picked up further strokes at the long 14th and 15th.
Surprise of the day was that Irish Open winner Simon Dyson, joint halfway leader with McIlroy, Donaldson and Gary Boyd, fell back to 34th with a 74.
