Martin: Labour lack any influence in Government

The Fianna Fáil leader has accused Labour of lacking any influence in government.

Micheal Martin was speaking amid the ongoing controversy over the newly-established IBRC inquiry.

He was among the opposition figures invited by the Minister for Finance to discuss the issue last night - a move he said shows the coalition realised the game was up on their original plans for an investigation.

That format has been described by Tánaiste and Labour leader Joan Burton as a "scoping exercise", but Micheál Martin said she is wrong.

"Labour's completely lacking any influence in Government," he said, "or any raison d'être in Government, when it got to stage that they couldn't see any conflict of interest [in the format of the inquiry]."
