Kirklees grabbed Group-One glory for Middleham trainer Mark Johnston and jockey Frankie Dettori in the Gran Criterium at San Siro.
The two-year-old colt, owned by Sheikh Mohammed, beat the Michael Jarvis-trained Strobilus by a length for an English one-two.
Chinese Whisper, trained by Aidan O'Brien and ridden by Kieren Fallon, was a close third.
Charlie Johnston, the trainer's son, said: "Frankie doesn't ride for us very often but this is a Sheikh Mohammed horse so took the ride and obviously being from over there he's knows the track as well as anyone. That suited us as well.
"He's been running well all season and never been out of the first four.
"He's been running in Group Twos behind the likes of Strategic Prince and Vital Equine, who both ran well on Saturday in the Dewhurst.
"We didn't think he was quite up to Group Two/Group One standard over here and this looked like a good opportunity for him and he's capitalised on it."
