Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has condemned the behaviour of supporters who allegedly confronted Rangers manager Paul Le Guen after the Hoops’ 2-1 defeat by Hearts at Tynecastle on Sunday.
Le Guen, who was reportedly with his assistant Yves Colleau and other members of his staff, was understood to have been verbally abused by a group of fans on his way from the stadium to the car park, with one report claiming the Frenchman had been spat upon.
Police confirmed they received reports of an incident involving the former Lyon coach, who joined the Glasgow club in the summer, but it is understood the Ibrox boss does not want to take the matter further.
It is unclear whether those involved in the incident were Hearts or Celtic fans but Strachan claims the supporters’ allegiances were irrelevant.
And speaking specifically about the alleged spitting incident Strachan told The Herald:
“It doesn’t matter what strip that guy has on, if he is a Celtic supporter, Rangers supporter or Motherwell supporter.
“Forget being a supporter, take the supporter bit away – you are a yob.
“I hope, if anything has happened to Paul Le Guen, he doesn’t see him as a supporter but as an absolute moron of the highest degree. That’s what I hope he sees.
“I’m like that with all supporters. You are either a decent person or a yob.
“It’s up to you how you behave, the strip makes no difference.”
Strachan claims he had been the victim of loutish behaviour from a Hearts fan before the game.
He said: “I went to Hearts on Sunday and I signed a lot of autographs, posed with pictures with kids and and had a bit of banter but there was this one shouting and screaming.
“I don’t see him as a Hearts supporter, I see him as a yob.”
