A man has been arrested after Gardaí and customs officers have uncovered two oil-laundering plants in Co Monaghan.

The facilities in Killyneill had the capacity to launder six million litres of fuel every year - at a potential loss to the exchequer of €3m.

They were found on a farmyard and commercial unit in Killyneil - and used bleaching earth and cat litter to launder fuel.

20,000 litres of oil, two vehicles and equipment were also seized.

A man from the North in his late twenties was arrested at the scene - he is being held at Monaghan Garda Station.
