The Government's proposed National Stadium has moved a step closer.

Tenders to build Sports Campus Ireland have been reduced from five to two.

The final two bids will now go to cabinet. Details are not being released at this

stage as the information is regarded as being commercially sensitive.

The project is the subject of a independent review with a report expected next

month.

Meanwhile it is hoped the sod will be turned next month on the aquatic centre to be based at the Abbotstown site. It is needed for the Special Olympics to be held in Ireland in 2003.

The Minister for Sport Jim McDaid has estimated the cost of the project at

£550 million.
