Yates backs Bruton after poor poll showing

Fine Gael's Ivan Yates has defended party leader John Bruton after the release of poll results which showed his personal popularity has plummeted amongst the public.

Fine Gael's Ivan Yates has defended party leader John Bruton after the release of poll results which showed his personal popularity has plummeted amongst the public.

Deputy Yates insisted that Deputy Bruton has his and others' support and said that to change the party leadership would not necessarily mean an upturn in its popularity.

He said unity of purpose within the party and amongst the opposition parties would better achieve this end.
