The Government has announced a £3m aid package for the Balkans.

The Government has announced a £3m aid package for the Balkans.

The money will go towards supporting stability in the region, where Irish troops are currently serving on peacekeeping missions.

The package will also benefit Macedonia, where fighting between ethnic Albanian rebels and Government forces is threatening to spread beyond the country’s borders.

Further support is being provided for female victims of human trafficking in Romania.

Member states of the EU are encouraged to send aid to the former Yugoslavia in a bid to maintain stability and rebuild the economies of new States shattered by years of war.
