Marion Jones made a winning return to the track at the Millrose Games after taking 14 months out for the birth of her son.
The triple Olympic gold-medallist won the women’s 60 metres at the Millrose Games in Madison Square Garden.
But Jones made light of her time away from competition by destroying a quality field, clocking 7.21 seconds – the fastest time his year by an American.
She actually trailed out of the blocks, falling behind Torri Edwards and Inger Miller, but stormed through for victory.
“Once again the start seems to elude me,” said Jones.
“After four steps, I looked like a woman who’s been on pregnancy leave.
“Then I switched gears and said, ’I’m an Olympic champion and I better be out here dominating this race’.
“To make my debut at the Millrose Games and get beaten, that’s not how I wanted to start my season.”
Jones edged Angela Daigle (7.24secs), Miller (7.27) and Edwards (7.28), while youngster Allyson Felix was fifth in 7.36.
