Two more Afghan hunger strikers taken to hospital
Two more of the Afghan hunger strikers in Dublin's St Patricks Cathedral have been taken to hospital for dehydration.
A further six teenagers and one adult in the cathedral are still refusing to drink liquids, despite the concerns of other hunger strikers and the church authorities.
Meanwhile, the Representitive of the UN-High Commissioner for Refugees in Dublin is recommending the men abandon their demand to be treated as a single group.
Manuel Jordao says the men's claim to asylum need to be examined on a case by case basis.
Mr Jordao said: “I think that they might have very good reasons to believe that they should not be returned to Afghanistan. I believe that they are choosing the wrong way to plead their case.”
He added: “I think that they should go back to the trust they had once deposited in those that have been assisting them to present their claim to asylum institutions here in Ireland.”
