Australian Prime Minister John Howard has been jostled and pelted with rubbish by students at a university in the southern city of Adelaide.

Australian Prime Minister John Howard has been jostled and pelted with rubbish by students at a university in the southern city of Adelaide.

The students were demonstrating against the government’s immigration and higher education policies.

Around 200 protesters closed in on Mr Howard as he arrived at the University of Adelaide to discuss planned government legislation on embryonic stem cell research.

The Prime Minister was unhurt and there was no immediate word of any arrests.
