A major search operation was continuing today in north-west Ireland after a 22-year-old German backpacker went missing while on a cliff top walk.
Constanze Czerwinske left her hostel in the Irish-speaking Co Donegal village of Glencolmcille on Tuesday, telling other backpackers she was going walking.
But she failed to return and a major land and air search operation began yesterday.
The nearby Slieve League sea cliffs are the highest in Europe.
Rescuers from Donegal Mountain Rescue and Malin Head Coastguard joined an Aircorps helicopter in the search.
Sixty people made up 15 search teams, which also included gardai and locals. They are focusing on a stretch of coastline between Port and Silver Strand.
A gardai spokesman said: ‘‘She arrived in Ireland alone on June 15 and in Glencolmcille on June 17. She booked into a local backpackers’ hostel.
‘‘At 3pm the following day she told people at the hostel that she was going out walking but she failed to return.’’
