The man whose body was found in Cork city centre this morning had only discharged himself from hospital a few hours earlier.
The man, who is understood to have been in his thirties and from the northside of the city, had been in the Mercy Hospital for a number of days before discharging himself at 5.30am today.
His body was found approximately two hours later on the corner of Grafton St and Henry St. Some of his clothing and personal items were found in a different location close to the hospital.
It is believed there were a few minor cuts and scrapes on his neck and face and some blood was found near the scene of the body.
A post mortem is to be carried out shortly on the body.
